An Ode to the Ordinary

Blackberries .
Cleanliness laid next to my mother’s heart
though the saying says it’s godliness,
but licking billowing clouds
of whipped cream from the top
of my bowl of breakfast blackberries,
I do not ponder the voices of the past
but live for the moment,
making small messes
on the kitchen counter-top
and finding my godliness there.

  1. This is delicious- I have many memories of blackberries!

  2. I have been with Hestia making small messes in my kitchen. The harvest is to be shared with many. Celebrating the ordinary is so important.

  3. Yum – I’ve been making messes in my kitchen too. Just as well we are celebrating the ordinary here because I messes have been very ordinary (lol).

  4. For me, it is black raspberries that capture my memory in this manner: fresh, as jam, in pies, as sauce over ice cream or as ice cream.
