Seeking Eldorado

My Shadow and I In Eldorado
by Heather Blakey
September 19 2009

Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old-
This knight so bold-
And o’er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
“Shadow,” said he,
“Where can it be-
This land of Eldorado?”

“Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,”
The shade replied-
“If you seek for Eldorado!”

  1. Put like that I can see what the fascination with the shadow is all about. I really like the last verse of Poe’s poem – I’ll saddle up my donkey and get riding. Thanks for the inspiration

  2. Wow, Heather, great image and Poe poem!

  3. for how many years and how many lifetimes have we sought Eldorado?

  4. What a truly fantastic image – brilliant 🙂

  5. Edgar Allen Poe, creative but scary at times…. makes me scared of the wind and knocking….
