I just thought I would let you in on a bit of a secret. Well it is not really such a secret.

Until now Hestia’s Hearth has only operated here in an online setting. Last night I ran my first session, with five women, at Creswick, a neighbouring town where I tutor at a Community Learning Centre. We had a wonderful night.

The secret part is what we did. This is only for the ears of Hearth members. I took along a box of natural treasures and set up a special altar to the muse. I had my old copy of Hesiod with me and we invoked the muse and talked about who Hestia was and is. Then we did one of my favourite guided imageries. We walked into a sea shelll and then shared what came from this exoerience.

I have done this exercise many times but the results never cease to inspire me. Each woman came up with a completely different scenario and we discussed each of these and talked about what they would do before coming along next week.

Each of these women, like me, have undergone significant life changes which have bought them to this Central Goldfields area. We have much in common and I am thrilled by the potentiality and how the hearth is manifesting itself. We all left feeling decidedly energized.

Perhaps we could co-ordinate things so that next week some of you are online as we work and we can see some posts go up in the online setting. Let me know if you would be interested in meeting in this way, through Facebook and this blog. That way I will be able to show these women just what is possible.

I’ll give it a try Heather.

Oh, You’re doing an amazing job with your portraits. Ears are a dead giveaway to how skilled an artist one is, and you draw some very realistic ears Dear Heart!

    1. Wonderful! So glad you will join the fun. I will send out the activity they will be doing before hand so that we can co-ordinate and have some responses go up while the session is on.

And thanks for the feedback. I have stacks of anatomy books and still don’t use them enough. Noses are the absolute challenge – not to mention teeth. I am in total awe of the skill of some artists.

  4. This is fantastic! So let me see if I understand this: the next time your group actually meets, you will also be online and posting what you are doing and we can interact? How would this work? What time does your group actually meet (Oz time?)

    1. We are meeting between 7-9 p.m. on Thursday May 13th. I am not sure of the skill level of the women in the group at Creswick but I thought we would do an activity, one that everyone here has had time to think about. When we turn the computers on at Creswick and go into Hestia’s Hearth – I will have a guest login for these women – the group will see posts on the topic they have worked on appear and will be able to comment. Ideally some responses to those comments will bounce back. Nothing too grand at the moment but I think it will work.

    2. I will be advertising this as an ‘event’ on Facebook but will save any use of Facebook, as a means of communicating, for another night.

  5. oh, i would love this–doing something with my ravens real time.

  6. What a wonderful idea. Unfortunately, I’m not literate enough in facebook yet so won’t be able to take part. I wonder what time it’ll be here when this exciting exercise will take place. I’m going now to figure the time thing…Oh, in what part of Australia are you located so I know how to figure it?

Love your picture. You are doing really great work. It’s hard to believe that you haven’t been drawing for that long.

    1. We will not be using Facebook this time Vi. It will all be done here on this blog. And thanks for the feedback about my drawing. I keep doing them. It has become a form of relaxation and meditation.

  7. Wow! What a good idea. I’d like to participate if I can, but I don’t know if time constraints will allow me to.
I really think this is a nifty thing, though, Heather.

    1. Will totally understand if you don’t make it Jane.

  8. I am so happy to hear that you have gathered a group of women to work with in person. The activity you have planned will allow us also to enjoy the evening. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to partcipate as life is very hectic at my house with my daughter preparing for a theater performance and the end of the school year less than 4 weeks away. I will, however, be more than happy to read their posts and comment if that’s possible.

    1. It will be wonderful Sally and I totally understand why you will not make it. It can always add comments later.

  9. Count me in Heather. It will be between 5pm and 7pm WA time on a Thursday. Is that right? Can you give us a reminder the day before? I’ve got a head like a sieve these days πŸ™‚

    1. Brilliant! Will be an experience!

  10. I’d love to do something like this! Now…if only my own sieve-like brain can keep me ‘signed in’ to the exercise, you’ll see me there! Much love to all my Foodie Friends! steph

  11. Great idea Heather. It sounds like a brilliant way of expanding the hearth. I look forward to the next exciting development.

  12. What an excellent experience and a wonderful idea πŸ™‚

  13. this sounds like a great idea. I’ll see if the timing is compatible.

  14. I am SO in for this!
